Banda

Banda was one of the early adopters of Websofy’s e-rickshaw verification software, which enabled the district to start building smarter and safer urban transport. Together with Banda Police, the district administration launched the program in April 2024 to reduce traffic gridlock, unmanaged vehicles, and safety issues in some of the most crowded parts of the city.

This program implemented a QR-code-based verification system, which processed over 500 e-rickshaws. Each was issued a QR code, which is now displayed on the vehicles. Passengers and police are now able to scan the QR codes to verify the driver's credentials, vehicle registration, and permit status in real time.

To fix the traffic madness, they put a new one-way system in place for main corridors like Balkhandi Naka to Kiran College, Kiran College to Kalvangan, and Guler Naka to Maheshwari Devi with police presence at critical intersections. Each type of e-rickshaw was color-coded to prevent unauthorized movement and streamline traffic. Certain sectors, like the area around railway stations and busy markets, were strictly controlled to prevent overlaps and illegal operations.

To address the issue of women’s safety, Banda put focus on it first, which is what set them apart. During Navratri 2024, the police took action so only e-rickshaws driven by approved, noncriminal men could operate. Now women can scan QR codes to view drivers’s identities, adding a layer of trust and safety.

The city was also undergoing other forms of media campaigns and the setting of physical barriers at five major intersections. Together with Banda’s ability to monitor issues in real time, smart traffic planning, and proactive safety measures, the city is leading the way for others looking to blend technology, mobility, and public safety.

Aligarh

After experiencing a breakthrough with Banda, Aligarh became the next major city in Uttar Pradesh to implement Websofy’s e-rickshaw verification software. With a combination of increasing congestion, safety concerns, and the unregulated movement of e-rickshaws, Aligarh Traffic Police had to join forces with Websofy to implement a system-driven, structured solution.  

SP Traffic Mukesh Chandra Uttam stated that more than 5,000 e-rickshaws are in operation within Aligarh, a large portion of these operating e-rickshaws being unregistered and unregulated. Such rampant unauthorized operation posed a major public safety concern with prevalent complaints of gridlock, diversion, and collisions. To help mitigate Aligarh’s traffic troubles, the district was divided into 4 major traffic zones, each assigned a distinct color code (red, green, blue, or yellow). To improve safety and streamline traffic improvisation, e-rickshaws are only allowed to operate within their assigned color-coded zones.  

Under the new system:

Every e-rickshaw must now be registered digitally through the Aligarh Police Portal http://aligarhpolice.in.  

Owners must provide the driver’s Aadhaar and relevant vehicle documents through mobile or at public facilities like Jan Seva Kendras.

Every rickshaw gets assigned a unique QR code sticker after approval. Pouring clocks for both passengers And traffic officials can check the registration, route eligibility, and driver details for boarding. 

Without a QR code, the e-rickshaw is considered unverified and could be penalized, suspended, or banned for unpermitted operation. 

In order to manage traffic and prevent movement between zones, dedicated one-way traffic routes have been established. 

• Zone 1 (Red): Railway Station, Sarsol Chowk, and Ramghat Road are bounded to the south by Sarsol Chowk. 

• Zone 2 (Green): From Ramayan Tiraha to Maheshpur Bypass. 

• Zone 3 (Blue): From Barula Tiraha to Qarsi Square and nearby areas. 

• Zone 4 (Yellow): From Sasni Gate to Padab Chauraha, Achal Tal, and Eta Chungi.

Auraiya  

As we reported earlier, Websofy’s e-rickshaw verification Software has now been implemented in Auraiya, following Banda and Aligarh. With Banda and Aligarh already having Websofy’s e-rickshaw verification software, a meeting at Sadar Kotwali police station has been conducted where it was decided that all autos and e-rickshaws will now be digitally registered at the police station.  

Traffic Inspector Tej Singh remarked that all driver, owner, and vehicle details will be captured via the Websofy portal, and each vehicle registered will be issued a QR code. This code needs to be displayed on the vehicle and can be scanned using any smartphone to verify the driver and registration details in real time.  

Vehicles that do not have a QR code will be considered as unverified, and punitive action might be taken against them. This computerized system gives the local police more power to control the flow of traffic in the city. This system will be more effective, as only authorized vehicles will have the ability to be tracked.  

With QR-based digital enforcement now in place, Auraiya is the latest district in the state of Uttar Pradesh to join the list of districts using technology for governance.

Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, has now become part of the district using Websofy’s E-Rickshaw Management and Verification System. In a positive development for public transport, DCP Traffic Kamlesh Dixit has ordered that starting September 1, 2025, no e-rickshaw can operate without a verified QR code. 
The reason for enforcing the QR code system is to ensure all e-rickshaws plying on the city roads are verified and marked as compliant with all regulations. The QR code allows passengers to scan and verify the vehicle and driver credentials in real-time during the journey. “This isn’t simply a sticker; it serves as a verification system. With this, passengers can confirm that the driver is genuine and properly registered,” said DCP Dixit in the press conference on the subject. 
To prepare for full-scale implementation, a citywide awareness meeting was conducted in Police Lines, inviting representatives from about 30 auto and e-rickshaw unions who were educated on the registration, QR verification, and other related processes. Starting September 1, the enforcement phase will commence to deal with non-compliant or unverified e-rickshaws with strict fines, route restrictions, and even vehicle impoundment. This is important to control in public transport systems in densely populated urban areas such as Lucknow.
